  • Preparation
    Foreground color = OFFWHITE #fffff0, background color = black.
    We will use red (#ab2f18) and green later in this lesson.
    To start, our material palette looks like this:

    Feel free to change the opacity and blend mode from the layers if you work with different colors. You can colorize if necessary

    Part one : Making the play cards with the program TrueBoxShot prog.(stand-alone progr.)
    a) Making clubs and diamond cards (with the brush tool)

  1. File - New Image:
    Color: #fffff0

  2. Layers - New raster layer
  3. Activate your brush tool and select the file klaver (clubs):
    @nn_060811_brushes_Poker_klaver_tdstudio

    Place in the middle of your image with the black background color
  4. Effects - Plugins - Alien Skin Eye Candy 5: Impact - Glass choose my preset:

  5. Layers - New Raster layer
  6. Brush tool again and select the file: @nn_060811_brushes_Poker_klaver_A_tdstudio

    Place in the left top corner with the black background color :

  7. Layers - duplicate
  8. Image - Mirror
  9. Image - flip
  10. Layers - Merge - Merge all (flatten)
  11. Image - Rotate left-->> obligated !!!
  12. Save as a JGP and give a name : clubs.jpg
  13. Change background color into red #ab2f18

  14. Repeat these steps for the diamond card start at item1 (take these brushes:

    Save these images in a map from your choice (we still need them in the stand-alone prog. TrueBoxShot)

  15. b) Making spades and hearts cards (with preset shape tool)

    color: #fffff0

  17. Background color = black - close the foreground color

  18. Activate Preset shape tool and choose spades:

  19. Draw spades in the middle of your Image (see how big you want to have it)
  20. Objects -align - center in canvas
  21. Layers - Convert to raster layer

  25. Stamp with black in the left upper corner (like you did with the other cards)

  29. Layers - Merge - Merge all (flatten)
  30. Image -rotate left-->>obligated !!!
    before saving you have this:

  33. Proceed the same way for the card with hearts (background color = #ab2f18)

    c) Making play cards in TrueBoxShot (finishing touch)
  35. Open stand-alone program TrueBoxShot. Place the program on your desk top or on the bottom:

    Choose FILE - OPEN and select my file: @nn_060811_Poker_TBS_emptycard.tbs (you saved it in a map of your choice)
    Click tab 2D and click right on Front Image

    You see this - now select Load Image:

    Go to your map and select the hearts card:

    Click on Rendering top corner right.
    Click Render.

    Click Save and save as a.png !!!!!!! (with transparency !!!!!)

    Save them in a map of your choice.
  36. Repeat these steps for clubs, diamonds and spades. (Click OK for the next cards (at the bottom right in the TrueBoxShot prog.) and from now on "Go to tab 2D and click right on Front Image..." (scroll up and replace the card you made before)-->> do this each time
  37. When finished minimize the prog for a while , we still need it for the back side of the card.
    You have this in your map:
    Pay attention PNG files!

    c) Back side of a play card
  38. We will make the back side of a card:

    Color: BLACK

    Explanation: we start by making one in white/grey, then we duplicate and colorize in a color from our choice. Make as many chips as you want.
